    sprinkler system for restaurant kitchens

I am a new user of SmartDraw and would like to know if anyone can share an example of a fire suppression system for restaurant kitchens, or at least point me in the right direction. The drawing must be professionally created as it is used for permitting with the local fire department.

    Thank you,

    Michael

    Hi,

Depending on where you live the laws are different.

My understanding is you need to show: Equipment and outline of hood overhang with Equipment below, Show location of piping, Manual Pull and Nozzle Locations,  Class K fire extinguishers are required(I think). They must be mounted no more than 30' from the appliance it is planning on protecting.  Most of this info can be supplied by your local Fire Marshal.  These are local laws and not federal, so I would say make the call.

On the lighter side,  Here's how I would lay it out:

    1) Create floor plan of the room.

    2) use the smartdraw graphics to put in the appliances.

    3) you can create the overhang with the shapes and then double click it to add text to the middle of the shape

    4) Use a separate line color to create the piping. (I use Green for pipes)

    5) use a small circle on the piping to show the location of the Sprinkler heads.

    6) When done, or you can do this at the beginning, right click the lines and click "always display dimmensions"

    7) certain areas where you need to show separations, add double arrow lines and show those dimmensions as well.

    Done....

It sounds like a lot, but with Smartdraw, it really will not take long at all.  You are just utilizing the basic functions of the program and the learning curve will be quite quick.  Honestly if I had the information needed, it would take no longer than 20 minutes to complete the whole thing with a blank screen. May be 15 minutes

Hope this helped...Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions....

    Best regards,

Thank you so much for your helpful comments. I know the local (California) regulations fairly well. The drawing has to have a 3-D appearance. The hood as well as the apliances have to be pretty realistic. The appliances in the SmartDraw graphics are 2-D and are mostly regular kitchen appliances, not commercial ones such as in restaurant kitchens. The shape is 2-D as well and I would have to convert it to 3-D. I am wondering if the amount of work isn't significantly more than meets the eye.

Is it possible I am missing functionality (I have only downloaded the 7-day free trial product.) Also, I have an example of a hand-drawing that I would be willing to scan and e-mail if someone can help me get started.

    Grateful once again,

    Michael
